Reading the sacred form

Shri Chakra contains interlocking triangles, lotus enclosures, an outer boundary, and a central bindu. Four principal triangles point upward and five downward. Their interrelationship is traditionally read through Shiva and Shakti. The complete design is approached as an ordered whole, with each enclosure holding a place in worship.

Nine avaranas and the bindu

Navavarana refers to the nine enclosures of the Shri Chakra. The outer forms and central bindu give the worship an inward orientation. The nine principal triangles and nine avaranas describe different aspects of the diagram; learning these terms carefully helps a beginner follow later explanations without confusing geometry with ritual sequence.

03

Outer worship and inner contemplation

Shri Vidya literature relates sacred form to the life of the worshipper. The Bhavanopanishad is an important example of this contemplative approach. This encourages a thoughtful question: how does the meaning of worship become present in attention, intention, and conduct? Reading and reflection can accompany learning the outward form.

Learning to approach the yantra

A clear, accurately drawn image is helpful for study. For formal worship, the selection, placement, and method follow the guidance received in one’s tradition. The first purpose of understanding the yantra is to approach it with awareness and reverence, allowing the sacred form to deepen an already sincere intention.
